Learner Eligibility for Skills Bootcamps

Age Requirements

Skills Bootcamps are open to adults who are aged 19 or older on 31 August within the ESFA funding year:

  • For bootcamps starting between 01 April 2024 – 31 July 2024: learners must be aged 19 or older on or before 31 August 2023
  • For bootcamps starting between 01 August 2024 and 31 March 2025: learners must be aged 19 or older before 31 August 2024

Additional Criteria

Learners must also meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have the right to work in the UK (this can be checked on gov.uk/view-right-to-work)
  • Meet residency requirements (refer to the Residency Eligibility section of the AEB funding rules)
  • Live in London

Who Can Apply?

Skills Bootcamps are open to all eligible adults within the communities they serve, including:

  • Full-time or part-time employed individuals
  • Self-employed individuals
  • Unemployed individuals (i.e., not in work)
  • Adults returning to work after a break
  • Serving prisoners due to be released within 6 months of completion of a Skills Bootcamp
  • Those on Temporary Release

Frequency of Attendance

An adult may only undertake one Skills Bootcamp per funding year (1 April to 31 March). Learners may transfer between Skills Bootcamps within a year under specific conditions.

Funding

Courses are fully funded by the Government for individuals not being co-funded by their employer, and for the self-employed. Co-funding options are available for employers:

  • 30% contribution for large employers (250+ employees) training their own existing employees
  • 10% contribution for SMEs (fewer than 250 employees) training their own existing employees

Additional Information

  • There must be no charges to the individual learner for any element of the Skills Bootcamps.
  • Universal Credit claimants can apply for Skills Bootcamps if it will improve their chances of securing work.
  • Participants enrolled on DWP's Restart programme can access Skills Bootcamps, recognising differences in provision.
